My thoughts on Barack Obama becoming the next US President

by Kieran on November 5, 2008

Today our nation woke up to a new day that brought more change then has ever come before. A black man with a Muslim name was elected President of the United States. I honestly never thought it would happen. I supported Obama in the end but I wasn’t completely gun-ho for him from the start, I felt that Hillary was a better option on the Democratic side and could have swayed towards McCain if he picked anyone put Palin. A McCain / Romney ticket would have gotten my vote. In the end, when I made my mark on the voting ballot I checked off Obama and felt good about it.

Obama wasn’t the perfect candidate, I don’t even know if there ever would be someone perfect, but he was the best choice in my opinion to lead this nation down a better path. Now I dont think he is a miracle worker or will fix everything – even after 4 years. However, based on what I learned about him over the past year we as Americans made the right decision. In fact, by choosing Barack Obama as our President, even if he fails to bring all the changes he promised, the world as a whole found a new respect for America and that is worth voting for him by itself.
