2009 – Starting the year off fresh and focused

by Kieran on January 1, 2009

Obviously 2008 was a banner year for the Hawe Family, top of the list being the birth of the twins (Alanna and Kamran) on August 14th. However, I can safely say 2008 was a great year all around, both personally and professionally. Now here is a new year – 365 day of possibilities, promise and surprises. Of course I am not sure how the year will play out but I am certain it will be a good year.

For the past month or so I have taken it easy on the personal digital work – blogging less, reading less industry news, doing less web development, not taking on any side work, etc. I felt that I needed a recharge after a very busy year,  I was getting a little burnt out with everything going on and losing some of my passion and drive. So here I am today, January 1st and ready to tackle the new year – I would definitely recommend everyone stepping away from what they do for even a short period of time.

Another big reason for taking a break, outside of being able to focus more on my family, was the fact that I am starting a new job on January 5th. The new position (Senior Director, Online Marketing) at a growing and exciting e-commerce / product company will be a challenge, in a good way. Leaving MTV Networks was probably the toughest career decision I ever made but the opportunities that the new position brings was too good to pass up. I have a feeling, even though I dissed being in Times Square, I will miss working at 1515 Broadway a lot more then I thought.

So with that being said I welcome 2009 with open arms and look forward to what lies ahead.
