My Half-Assed Movie Review: “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” Was Actually Funny

by Kieran on July 19, 2009

This past Friday the wife and I received two of our latest NetFlix movies – some French movie I never heard of and will never watch (willingly at least), and the comedy “Forgetting Sarah Marshall“. Now the fact that my wife has totally sabotaged MY Netflix que is a post for another day – however, I think everyone would agree that it is not cool to put your crappy independent flix ahead of the latest Entourage season DVD I have been waiting months to watch </rant>.

Needless to say we went with the comedy I actually heard of and didn’t require me having to read subtitles (editors note: a movie is meant to be watched not read). Even though it was my wife’s pick, and she is known for picking horrible movies, “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” had three things going for that caused me to be somewhat into watching it:

  1. It was from the guys who wrote or directed (not sure which) “40 year old virgin” and “Knocked-up” so it couldn’t be that bad.
  2. The hot chick from “That 70′s Show” was in it – not the red head, the other one.
  3. The tall doofy guy from “How I met your Mother” was the leading character.  LOVE that show! Neil Patrick Harris’ character “Barney” is the best funny side-kick since Joey from Friends…trust me, that is a huge compliment NPH.

Even with those three things going on, I still didn’t have high hopes for the movie – especially considering that annoying British “actor” Russell Brand was in it. However, I am glad to say I was pleasantly surprised at how funny and entertaining the movie was. It inst the funniest movie you will ever see but it definitely had some really funny moments and I wasn’t checking the time every 15 minutes.

All in all it was a good movie that made me laugh – glad I didn’t spend a $20 seeing it in the movie theater but well worth renting.
