The wife and I have always loved movies of all shapes and sizes…from major blockbusters to small art house films, movies have been a constant in our relationship. However, a recent discussion about what makes a movie a classic got me thinking about the movies she absolutely HATED but I loved. The list isn’t that long but when I say she hates them, I mean she HATES them.
- Tropic Thunder – one of those movies that gets funnier each time you watch it…Laila would disagree with this.
- King Kong (Peter Jackson edition) – Laila actually wanted to walk out of the theater, I on the other hand loved the visual effects.
- Star War I, II and III
- Star Trek (anything & everything) – this goes much deeper then how Laila feels about a specific movie. She hates everything Star Trek related.
- Superman (the new one) – another movie Laila wanted to walk out on.
- Boondock Saints – one of my all-time favorites…Laila felt it was way to violent.
- Slap Shot – the fact she can’t stand this all-time classic is a big issue in our marriage.
- Apocalypse Now – personally I feel she doesn’t get the true genius of this classic. It is NOT just a war movie!
- Three Kings – how can you go wrong with Marky Mark AND Georgie Clooney!
- 300 – a lot of reasons why Laila didn’t like this one…some valid, some not so valid.

This can’t be a guy/girl thing, because I loved all of the movies you loved except Boondock Saints, which my daughter is crazy about, Slap Shot which I either never saw or don’t remember (I will try to request it at the library.) I thought Apocalypse Nw wa a bit too long, but have no idea where it could be cut, and Three Kings was a bit depressing, but awesome.
I wanted to hate 300, but I loved it.
