JetBlue’s “All You Can Jet” for only $599…great deal or just hype?

Have you seen the latest promotion from my favorite airline, JetBlue? For $599 you get an “all-you-can-fly” plan that gives you unlimited flights anywhere they fly, any seat, any day (within the month time period).

Not bad right?

At first glance I thought this was an amazing deal. However, when I started to break the actual cost of flying versus the $599 price point my opinion changed. So the question becomes is this great deal or just marketing hype? I think it is a little of both. For frequent flyers it could potentially be a bargain but it all comes down to where you fly and how many times. Looking at JetBlue’s current pricing I would have to fly round-trip from NYC to San Fransisco twice in a month in order to save money. That is a lot of flying for most non-jetsetters.

Putting the actual savings for flyers aside, from JetBlue’s perspective this is a win-win. Booking $599 for one flyer regardless of how many times they fly is a positive in this economic climate – but the real value comes in all of the exposure and hype they are getting. As the old saying goes you can’t buy this type of publicity

So, are you looking to take a month to travel the United States? Have a few weddings you are in? Need to visit Las Vegas every weekend? If you answered yes to any of the previous questions then this is the deal for you!
