Seems like no matter where you turn there is someone talking about where Lebron James will land once NBA Free Agency season starts in July. So, why not add to the clutter with my own predictions and opinions!
Below ( in no particular order) are the teams I feel have the best shot at landing Lebron based on current salary cap room and NBA rumors.
- Chicago Bulls – Lebron would have the best chance RIGHT NOW at winning with this squad. Lebron, Rose and Noah would look a lot like the Bulls teams of the 90′s…the superstar (MJ), the side-kick who can step-up when needed (Pippin) and the role players. However, would LBJ want to play in the town owned by Jordan? Is that too big of a shadow? Lebron is looking to build his own legacy and there is no way he will ever eclipse MJ.
- New York Knicks – The biggest stage and the biggest opportunity to build a legacy equal to MJ’s. The only problem(s)? A horrible team and an even worse owner. The Knicks have made it clear that their goal the past 2 seasons was to land 2 top max players. Even with LBJ and lets say a Bosh or Joe Johnson they are still a few pieces away from being a championship team – if his main goal is to win multiple championships he might as well stay in Cleveland.
- Los Angeles Clippers – No way in hell.
- Cleveland Cavaliers – Yes, I heard him on Larry King talk about how the Cavaliers have the best chance of re-signing him. Yeah…did you see his last few games in the playoffs? Lebron wants OUT of Cleveland and is just trying to not tarnish his image too much before heading out of town.
- Miami Heat – Wade and LBJ on the same team seems to peak some interest but I would be shocked if that ever happened. Only so many minutes in a game for two prime-time scorers – however, this would be the perfect opportunity for Chris Bosh.
- New Jersey Nets – Crazy Russian owner who is worth a trillion dollars – check. Famous Rapstar – check. Solid (but young) core team – check. My guess is LBJ will soon be singing: “Where Brooklyn at!”.
